Chase enjoyed being greeted by Special K and Granny. They arrived before the patient...haha! Chase enjoyed the pediatric waiting room full of toys. He found a giraffe that he latched to and toted it with him to the back when we did pre-op. Chase had some great nurses that comforted him. One nurse even gave him a cute lil' rubber duck to keep. I think he knew something was about to happen when we changed his shirt, put on gripper socks and tried to weigh him. He wiggled and didn't want to get weighed. It was too early and poor guy hadn't eaten since 6pm the night before. Well after the nurse, doctor and the anesthetist came to talk to us and have us sign papers......it was time for us to part ways. This was heart wrenching!!!!!! Chase did not want to go to the nurse and leave his Mommy. He cried/whined hysterically, but then it tapered off when she turned the corner. I felt relief after that. We went back to the waiting area and sat approximately 10-15 minutes and they called, "wilder family." I got up thinking something must be wrong because that was too fast, but they said he was all done. Another relief.
Rich and I walked to the back to meet them at the nurses station and we heard Chase whining, so we met him at the door. This part made my heart really hurt. He looked different in the face and was whining/screaming and just so disoriented from the anesthesia. He couldn't quite figure out what he wanted. I held him, but he wanted down, then he didn't want to get down when I lowered. Rich tried to hold him, but he wanted me back. I tried to walk with him in the small recovery room, but he didn't want that. I even tried to nurse him thinking he was probably hungry and that might soothe him. Well that worked for 1 minute. I was running out of ideas. I then tried to close the door to the recovery room so he wouldn't disturb the other patients.......WRONG IDEA!!!!! He lost it when I did that. Then the nurse came by as well as the ENT doctor......WRONG IDEA.....he didn't want to see them either. Basically, he just wanted to get the heck out of there and go home, so that's what we did. He didn't recover at all in the Surgery Center. As soon as we started walking outside he began to calm down and he wanted Mommy to hold his hand in the car. Mommy and Daddy didn't even get to talk with the doctor after the procedure, but luckily we picked an awesome doctor! He called us at home and discussed the procedure and wanted to check up on Chase. What a nice person!!!!
More to follow......
